The tender opened by the Brazilian Army’s Manufacturing Directorate for the modernization of Cascavel 6×6 wheeled armored reconnaissance vehicles already has a winner: the Consórcio Força Terrestre, formed by the companies Akaer, Universal Engenharia and Opto Space and Defence . The selected companies offered a budget of 74.6 million reais ($14.5 million), for a minimum of 98 and a maximum of 201 units to be modernized.
The Cascavel Modernization Program will be divided into stages, first with the presentation of two prototypes and then with the manufacture and delivery of a pilot batch of seven armored vehicles. Within the consortium, Akaer – as prime contractor – will handle the integration of the vehicle, Universal will be the system integrator and responsible for manufacturing and Opto will take care of the sensors and electronic systems.
